Diplomacy
More than three months after the brawl between American sailors and Chilean nationals outside the True Blue Saloon in Valparaiso, the new Chilean government, which had taken office on January 1, conceded all the American points, apologizing for the riots and withdrawing December 11, 1891 note from then-Foreign Minister Manuel Matta, which had accused the U.S. government of being insincere, wrong, and bellicose.

New York quarterback Phil Simms completed 22 of 25 passes for 268 yards and touchdowns to Zeke Mowatt, Mark Bavaro, and Phil McConkey, and Joe Morris and Ottis Anderson added short touchdown runs for the Giants. Denver quarterback John Elway completed 22 of 37 passes for 304 yards, including a 47-yard touchdown pass to Vance Johnson in the 4th quarter. Mr. Elway scored the Broncos' first touchdown on a 4-yard rush in the 1st quarter. It was the Giants' first Super Bowl win, and their first NFL championship since 1956.
