The Rough Riders scored the game’s only touchdown on a pass from Gary Wood to Billy Cooper. Ivan MacMillan converted and added a single on a missed field goal attempt, while Bill Van Burkleo punted for a single for the other Ottawa point. Calgary’s only scoring came on a wide field goal attempt from 50 yards by Larry Robinson that was conceded for a single. The Stampeders went into the game without star middle linebacker Wayne Harris, who was injured, but was ready for the team’s next game a week later. Jerry Campbell of the Rough Riders moved from an outside position to middle linebacker in place of all-star Ken Lehmann, who was dressed but was unable to play because of a neck injury. Mr. Campbell went on to make the position his own in the next few years. 23,013 fans attended the game at Lansdowne Park, and the low score could be attributed in part to a muddy field.

The state police immediately evacuated 1,400 people within a 5-mile radius of the blast for 12 hours as concern mounted over possible radioactive leaks from the 9-megaton warhead that had been attached to the missile.
